Blokes In Pubs Talk Nonsense (Pass The Douchie)

Sid: (responding to a tune playing on the tannoy): Gawd, you remember this one 'arry?

Harry: Yeah, blimey: takes me back that does 'n no mistake

Sid: Course, I jammed with Bob Marley once.

Harry: Yeah?

Sid: Yeah, at his London gig.  Tought him everything he knew.  Coulda been a reggae music meself: I did sing in UB40 briefly after Ali Campbell left

Harry: I never knew that (listens to the song for a minute): course, they were all on drugs you know.  The song was about taking drugs as well

Sid: Nah, can't a bin, it were on Blue Peter.  You don't get kids singing about taking drugs on Blue Peter

Harry: (pause) Well...there were that Grange Hill song...just say no or something

Sid: Oh yeah.  Guess you must be right then.  (pause) Whatever happened to this lot anyway?  Bit of a one hit wonder, right?

Harry: Probably on the come-back tour as we speak, with Rick Ghastly, New Kids On The Block and that lot.

Sid: Anyway, I think you're getting confused - weren't they singing about A pot, not BEING ON pot?

Harry: (with a knowing nod) well...that's what they always claimed...

Hehehe! I LOVED that song - and the kids who sang it! Thanks for this bit of fun. :)

I've had many a great song ruined for me by someone pointing out that it was about drugs or sex or drugs and sex. Liked the dialogue here though - 8 could just imagine it.

I agree with Argent: the last thing I want is to know what a song means.

Spot on.

Something else I've noticed about blokes in pubs (or elsewhere, for that matter) — they don't have opinions, they have facts. (If you're sceptical, just trying telling a bloke that what he's just said is just his opinion).

:^)

I never know what a song is about - even if someone tells me. The next time I hear it I won't remember. Makes everything fresh & new!

Generational differences lead to misunderstandings and misrepresentations of many life occurrences. Funny, isn't it? I love the imagination that went into this conversational offering. Thank you for sharing it, DFTP. =D

Brian - Musical Youth always claimed that "Pass The Douchie" referred to an old cooking pot called a Douchie. This much is actually true. What they failed to mention was that the tune of their song was taken from "Pass The Kouchie" which was slang for the other kind of pot.

Trellissimo - yeah it's a fun song

Argent - you should hear what passes for conversation in the bar below the Ukelele group

Stephen - sometimes knowing what a song is about can spoil it, but it can also make it more poigniant

Pete - this is very true. Everything blokes at bars say is total fact, regardless of its utter nonsense quotient

Bug - i think you are probably very lucky then :) My head is far too full of useless fact

Linda - thanks for visiting

I'm also with argent. Why does everyone always want to know what everything MEANS? Very enjoyable, this.
